I used to love eating fruits. My favourite has been apples, oranges, guava... (and the list goes on) I ate so much of them for the past year in order to lose weight. One fine day, I was looking at the packet of cut fruits my mum had prepared for me. Then I just can't stand the smell of it anymore. It's like the most disgusting smell ever.
So I stopped eating fruits for a while. However, last Saturday, on a overnight stay in a hotel with a few girlfriends. I was feeling hungry and the only low calorie food available are the delicious looking green apples on the tables. Finally I ate them.
Wola! My love for fruits came back in full, and I think it's just in time as I had gained at least 2 kg from the holidays.
I am going to blog on the fruits I intend to eat for the next few days :)
Starting with my favourite:
1 Green Apple = 48kcal.
1 Red Apple = 52kcal

Actually, I have always loved looking at cakes. I don't really have a sweet tooth, and I usually won't crave for sweet things. But I really enjoyed looking at those delicately made cakes. So pretty! I can totally understand why the Japanese and Taiwanese relate eating a good piece of cake to the feeling of 幸福 :) It's always a dream of me to have a real cake. By real, I mean well, not just commercialized and mass produced cakes from Bengawan Solo or FourLeaves. I want something that is really special costumed-made. I want something that is really pretty and only for me. But of course, I never had one. And maybe that is the reason why I always love looking at the cakes.. Since it's something that is unfulfilled, I have the right to fantasize.
So anyway, the point of this entry is I will be posting calories of different kinds of cakes in the next few days. Hope you don't get sick of it! :)

1 plate of fried rice, 428g = 907kcal.
Actually the calories of fried rice varies, depends of the kind of ingredient you have in your rice. But cuz of the oil and starch, it will definitely be more than 400kcal.

1 Steamed Pomfret (Fish),168.3g = 114kcal
Again, calories of fish depends on what kind of fish you are eating. The last I checked, the calories of Carp Slice(the kind usually found in steam fish soup) is 117kcals per 100g. I used to eat Cod fish a lot, and there is a nutrition value label which I can check the calories count. You should probably do the same.

Calories of rice!
According to the almighty HPB,
1 bowl of Brown rice = 302kcal
1 bowl of White rice = 280kcal
Brown rice has more calories because it has more nutrients and has more fibre. And I heard that 80% of the nutrients in rice is in the husk, which gives you the brown rice you are eating. After removing the brown part only 20% of nutrients is left in the white rice you eat.
I personally isn't a fan of brown rice. I don't like the taste, no matter how nutritious it might be. Taste of white rice is still the best.

1 red bean pancake, 72.2g = 194kcal
If you go to NUH often enough, you would never quite forget the taste of the Mr Bean pancake there. But now, every time I pass by that walkway next to the clinics, the scent of hot pancakes that used to make me drool just makes me feel sick..

Sorry for the lack of updates! (again)
Truth is, family member unwell, so got to MIA for a while. But you know that's just an excuse, I could update if I have the will to. I guess I am just physically, emotionally weak or something?
Anyway, I am back, and here are some updates on the dieting.
I actually lost 1kg in a week just before the school terms ends (finally) for the year. So I basically lost just 1 kg for the whole of 2009. That's really lousy news as I desperately want to be slimmer. This 1kg is the final weight after all the stress for the year and after I started this whole vegetarian thing. Hate to say this, but having no meat is so ruining my diet plans as I am now the new carbo hungry monster. :( But that's my inner evil, and as usual I am sure I can conquer it.
I am looking into better control with my diet and such as things are getting better at home and at work. But hell, it's school holidays. How to not indulge? I think I will start meditation or something. Anything that works.
Gonna start waking early for that long work. So cya. I promise more updates ok? :)

1 plate of Mee Goreng, 309g = 500kcal
There are limited options for food when you are a vegetarian. Sigh.
