LCGOTW: Fish Porridge
School has started! :( I need some good food for my soul.
Fish Porridge
261kcal for 1 bowl, 685g
Good fish porridge should taste as good as the sinful laska. So indulge in one bowl of hot porridge instead!

Subway eat Fresh!
Is Subway necessarily lower in calories? Is Subway a good "diet-food"?
The answer is not really. If you look carefully at the nutritional information on their website you would realise that their healthiest sandwiches range from 213-320kcal (without any sauce)
That is to say that it is equivalent to one fillet-o-fish at 350kcal. (and our fav. fish burger here has already taken into account the cheese and tartar sauce in that 350kcal. )
The numbers here show that subway is only slightly lesser in calories as compared to the sinful fillet. But of course, the fillet-o-fish, being labeled as JUNK food, is fried and filled with sinful cheese and sauce, so it will make you thirsty and hungry for more carbohydrates very quickly. The subway bun on the other hand, is filled with veggie. Thus it would make you feel full for a longer span of time.

LCGOTW: Baked Sweet Potato
Baked Sweet Potato
171kcal per packet
Less than $1, NTUC
This is delicious!! It taste exactly like the sweet potato my dad would buy from the market to bake himself. After we found this goodie, we no longer bake sweet potatoes anymore.
It's yummy and very filling. :) Sweet, and has a natural fragant of the sweet potato. Does not taste artificial at all! Good snack that satisfies your sweet tooth.

Anorexic
No-l-ita, No Anorexia
Too fat is scary, but too skinny is not good either.
I know it's very unkind of me to say this, but everytime I saw this ad, I will feel very uncomfortable. I feel nausea :(
I think this will serve as a reminder to all of us here, not to go overboard with our dieting. But well. Anorexic is still very very far away for me.......
*fyi, the model is Isabelle Carro.

Calories of Common Singapore food Part 1
A colleague of mine gave me this little booklet of the common Singapore food.
I am sharing this here.. It's really useful, has calories of food like Fried Kuey Tiao.. etc
For example,
1 plate of Hor Fun, 660g = 708kcal
1 bowl Red Bean Soup, 490g = 381kcal
Scary right??!!! But there are also some pleasant surprises:
1 Soon Kueh, 80g = 98kcal
(without sauce!)
1 bowl Wanton Noodles soup, 410g=217kcal
download it here:

If you follow the Taiwan pop culture like me, you would know who she is...
read more here
Apparently, she slimmed down by staring at breads! OMG. And she is not fat in the first place loh!! People like her always spoiling the market! How can fat people like us survive??!!
Personally I feel she feels like Jolin after she slimmed down. Always in a daze, lost the shine in her eyes. We slim down for beauty, not to become freaks!

Lack of sleep makes you fat
This is old news to me, but everytime I share this info with someone, they look at me in disbelief.
Sleep deprivation can increase your risk of obesity by boosting ghrelin (an appetite stimulating hormone) and lowering leptin (an appetite suppressor). The study from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom found that, compared to an eight hours of shut-eye, each one-hour decrease in sleep duration was linked to almost 3% more body fat. read more here
When I first started to go on a diet, I realised that I feel tired often, and need a lot of sleep everyday. I slept for more than 8 hrs a day, and I feel energize when I woke up!
I used to have insomnia, but its much better these days since I started on my weight journey to size 8. Now, I find it hard to lose weight, because I am so busy with work. Not enough sleep everyday :( Hopefully I can be in the afternoon session next year.. Then I can get more sleep...
So people. No more late nights! Go sleep now if you want to lose weight!

LCGOTW: Vietnamese Spring Rolls
xin chào !
By the time this post is up, I am already in Vietnam!!! Ho Chi Minh City!
Vietnamese food are known to be healthy. No fat people in Vietnam!
Vietnamese Spring Rolls
130kcal for 2 rolls
(depending on what you put inside the rolls, the kcal varies. I think boiled chicken or prawn is the best. Just don't put sinful stuff like sausage and you will be fine. )
I was first introduced to Vietnamese Spring Rolls in one of our school's Healthy Lifestyle event. Someone from the Health Promotion Board came to do a cooking demo on these goodies.
Always thought they must taste bland and disgusting. But turns out to be super yummy! I will buy some Vietnamese Spring Rolls Wrappers when I am in Vietnam!
*No, you are not supposed to fry it or dip too much sauce!

Brush your teeth to stop snacking!
Brushing your teeth right after dinner stops us from snacking. While eating a treat right before bed may not necessarily put on weight, our metabolism does slow down while we sleep, burning fewer calories. So if you must have a little snack, opt for something healthy and light like an apple. read more here
(Thanks to Lily for sharing the link!)
My uncle who is very fit and slim at 50 did this for dunno how many years of his life.. He say this is the best way to stop snacking, and true enough, he is able to exercise self-control.
Actually I did tried this brushing thing before..But I kinda forget about this all the time.. Ok I shall try to make this a habit.

Yong Tau Foo Soup
Famous Yong Tau Foo Soup from Gao Ji.
I just can't resist Yong Tau Foo. The soup from Gao Ji is so savory, and most importantly, its low in calories as compared to the other sinful food you can find in a hawker centre.
Kcal per piece
beancurd skin, deep fried -79kcal
tofu with fish paste - 63kcal
taupok with fish paste - 35kcal
boiled eggplant with fish paste - 31kcal
fishmeat wrapped with taukee - 20kcal
squid roll - 11kcal
red chilli with fish paste - 8kcal
bittergourd with fish paste - 9kcal
lady's finger with fish paste - 5kcal
red sauce 1 spoonful - 23kcal
fishmeat wrapped with mixed items, noodles not included - 296kcal
I always thought that tofu is very low in calories! Think I have to cut down on that in future. Be careful of the red sauce too! It's a scary 23kcal each spoonful! That's a lot!

Hidden Calories
Food shopping is not as easy or clear-cut as you might think.
Often, nutrient claims like 'calorie-free' do not mean that the product contains zero calories - trace amounts may still be present but are considered minimal enough to allow for such a claim.
Also, fat-free food may not necessarily be healthy as it may contain lots of sugar instead.

Thank you for visiting!
Today I was looking through my blog viewership statistic. I realised there is an average of 15-20 unique hits each day. When I checked the referral, I see a lot of repeated links.
I am very surprised and touched that people are coming back to my blog. And I feel so sorry for the infrequent updates!
Sorry folks! To make up for that, I am scheduling a few posts, spreading them out, so that you have something new to read each time you visit. Heee :D

oh no
LCGOTW: Coke Light
Coke Light
ZERO kcal
85cents NTUC
$1-$3 Eateries
This is the best drink ever. Unlike Pepsi Light and Coke Zero, which taste very artificial, Coke Light taste great. Not too sweet and don't leave a bitter aftertaste like Coke Zero. In fact, I think its better than the "real" Coke. "Real" Coke taste very sweet and sinful. Most importantly, it's ZERO KCAL!!!! ^o^
I heart Coke Light!
(I think its has 0.something kcal, but Coca Cola round it to Zero Kcal per 100ml)
I only order this or mineral water when I am out. You not only have to be careful of what to eat when you are on a diet, you must also watch what you drink. We can easily consume close to 300kcal when we are drinking if we are not careful. (300kcal is close to a burger already! )
Always always remember to check the nutrition facts before eating or drinking anything!

Soyjoy?
Is soyjoy a good food for those on a diet?
Well.. I don't think so. Have tried it, it's madly tasty. It's very healthy. Has a whole lot of nutrients you will need... but I don't think it is a diet food.
One soyjoy bar is 130-140kcal. 2 of it is equal to 1 cheeseburger from MCD.
And it doesn't makes you full. You end up consuming it like a snack.. A snack that is slightly on the high side for calories. A snack for skinny people. Not for those on a diet.
Be careful people! There are calories everywhere!

Wang Wang Xian Bei
LCGOTW= Low Calories Goodie of the Week
(Until I find a better name, that shall be the name for this weekly recommendation la)
Ok people. I am not a good queen, didn't take care of my subjects.. But here you are, the goodie of the weekly..
Wang Wang Xian Bei
27kcals every 2 pieces, or 1 small packet
$1.55
NTUC/Supermarkets
I always loved 旺旺仙贝. I think they did a very good advertising campaign during my pri-sec school days. The tagline of the advert, "旺旺真够味,旺旺!" never fails to come to me when I eat wangwang.
And yes! It's low in cal!! Only 27kcals for every 2 pieces. They are good for your craving for salty junk like Ruffles or Lays. Very cheap also. Recommended for everyone who wants to lose weight. However, unlike the Muji crackers, it is very salty and will make you want to eat more and more.. But but but.. It's better to snack on this than potato chips/chocolates or other sinful stuff.
Try to limit yourself to only 2 a day ok! :)
